SNR – all versions

What is it?

Simple n Radical – SNR, PCBSNR, DIYPCBSNR (I had a thing with acronyms at the time) – is a series of small battery powered digital chaotic noise generators based on the Radical Chip.

Originally a stripboard DIY design for using the Radical Chip without a Mute Synth 4.0, the instructions turned into workshops in a UK tour with Dirty Electronics.

PCBSNR

Other additions in later versions were a power switch and a gradual growth of pins: to patch in voltages, to DC-couple the output and to send the output to ring for headphone use.

New code with 64 algorithims (instead of 45; 9 of the 45 were culled) was added in the summer of 2023.

Features:

• Two controls

• Random Algorithm select button

• 64 algorithms

• Mini jack output

• Patchable with optional adapters

• Mounting holes to screw onto e.g. a plank (PCB versions only)

Data:

Size: 61x46x16.6mm

Weight: ~20g

Power supply: 9V battery.

Power consumption: around 7mA for the PCBSNR with high-efficiency leds, stripboard versions have normal red leds and draw around 13mA (both at 9V)
