Items from noise.technology devices have a special Ukraine tax of 10%! This includes items bought from noise.technology dealers. By gains I mean what is left from the purchase price after material costs and VAT. Costs for labour and development are thus not included, but are deducted after paying the ”tax”.
You buy something, and I send money to the current charity I'm giving money to. As the sums are directly correlated with my sales and costs I don’t want to put it all online, but you can email me and ask for ”evidence”, meaning a screenshot of my bank transfer. Although I don’t want to bother Disarmament Solutions too much so I’ll probably combine a few orders and pay every now and then. I guess there’s a level of trust involved here.
My calculated costs aren’t 100% accurate, but will always be lower than the real costs, for instance I don’t usually include resistor costs in my calculations but just decide that resistors are free and buy in bulk. Basically whenever I’m a bit off with the costs I err on the side of giving more money.
Some people may think 10% is low, but I aim to have this ’tax’ in place for a long time. I chose an amount I thought was sustainable in the long run. Special campaigns and such may still happen, and I’m working on a very Ukraine-specific project. Stay tuned.
Oh, by the way. Seeing as you clicked the Ukrainian flag on a page about experimental instruments, you may want to read my text Soma is a russian company, about Soma instruments and Vlad Kreimer.
So who will the money go to? Rather than give it to giga-charities like the Red Cross (who seem to waste it all on overheads and ad campaigns in addition to being afraid of sending their staff to Ukraine), the funds will be directed to local Swedish volunteer efforts.
For now, I will continue giving money to Disarmament Solutions, because haven’t figured out how taxes work otherwise. But they just send me an invoice to the amount I want.
In october 2023 noise.technology ran a campaign selling PCBSNR kits, where of the proceeds (including VAT) went to buy demining equipment from Disarmament Solutions, which were then delivered by JvM. Apart from the equipment, the front line troops receive training in the use of the equipment. The campaign collected 5200 SEK. The Ukrainian embassy even sent me a thank-you diploma which I’ve since framed.
On 2023-04-04, during my System Sound tour of Slovenia, Croatia and Czechia, me and Ondřej Merta ran a stripboard SNR workshop at Rello Il Torrefattore, all money was sent to The Come Back Alive Foundation. It was easier for people to send the money themselves, so I don’t have any records of how much we collected.
Bastl Instruments lent us soldering equipment as I couldn’t bring my tools on this tour. Too much other shit to carry. In June 2022, back when noise.kitchen was a music shop in Prague, we ran a campaign collecting money from PCBSNR sales (not kits – finished devices) for The Come Back Alive Foundation. I can’t find any details on how much we collected, my email is buggered :-(.
